2025

Wood, Broken Ceramics and Glass.

Dimensions Vary

2025 is an installation inspired by the grief of shattered dreams. When we're young, many of us imagine a picture-perfect home — a future where those we love live under one roof, where comfort, safety, and unity is a given. Though each person’s vision may differ, the desire to be surrounded by loved ones is almost universal. This installation presents a table - a symbol of togetherness - now fragmented and empty. To work this idea of emptiness I created 2 rigged cuts across the table. From there I had 2 missing spots. To further viewer interaction I was very intentional about my lighting. When looking down at the table where a cup and plate is there to draw in the viewer, their shadow is cast down in front of them. Their 2nd shadow is then over the broken pieces of the table where they will see broken plates and cups. This table brings viewers to reflect on the lives of those whose familial bonds have been disrupted by conflict and whose dreams have been replaced with survival, absence, and adaptation. Not only did I learn how to use the jigsaw and sander during the process of this project, but I also learned that not everyone is going to understand my art. I do not have to force more ideas on my project for the viewer to understand my concept. For this table I want people to be able to have their own interpretations and reactions if any.
